HFO/LFO tank cleaning – GCO/TOTAL

As part of a mission carried out for GCO / TotalEnergies, GBA SARL ensured the complete cleaning of HFO/LFO tanks.
Context
Heavy fuel oil (HFO) and light fuel oil (LFO) tanks accumulate deposits and hydrocarbon residues over time. Cleaning them is necessary for inspection, maintenance and the return to service of the facilities. It is an intervention in a hazardous environment, which requires rigorous preparation and strict compliance with HSE procedures.
Intervention
For this type of mission, GBA SARL carries out the tank cleaning services described on this website:
- Degassing: securing the installation before any intervention by removing dangerous and flammable gases.
- Sludge extraction: pumping and removal of hydrocarbon residues and deposits accumulated in the tank.
- Tank cleaning: restoring walls and bottom, using mechanical means and high-pressure jetting.
- Confined space work: operations carried out by qualified teams equipped for hazardous environments.
Equipment
- Vacuum trucks and industrial pumps for removing liquids and sludge.
- High-pressure cleaning equipment.
- Gas detectors and personal protective equipment.
- Technical teams trained in safety and confined space work.
Result
The HFO/LFO tanks were cleaned in full. The residues and sludge extracted fall under hazardous waste management: for their treatment, GBA SARL has the means presented on its Oil Sludge Treatment and Waste Incineration pages.
