Motorola Ups Its Game with Environmentally Responsible Design

Motorola, the cell phone manufacturer with a wide market presence in Africa seems to have upped its game by unveiling two new phone designs that it claims are the best insofar as environmental responsible design is concerned.
One of the models, the W233 Renew, is the world’s first carbon neutral mobile phone made using plastics comprised of recycled water bottles and is 100 per cent recyclable, so claims Motorola.
Renew is designed for the eco-conscious phone users around the world (and their numbers are growing by the day). Using it actually allows you to reduce your carbon footprint because the company offsets carbon dioxide used in its production and subsequent shipping.
Through an alliance with Carbonfund.org, Motorola offsets the carbon dioxide required to manufacture, distribute and operate the phone through investments in renewable energy sources and reforestation.
“Today, natural resources, energy and time are more precious than ever before,” said Jeremy Dale, corporate vice president, global marketing, Motorola Mobile Devices. “From the product’s design, to the packaging to our partnership with Carbonfund.org, we wanted to ensure that this device makes the right impact with consumers and the environment.”
What’s more. It comes with a postage-paid recycling envelope in box makes it easy to return your previous mobile phone for recycling at no cost. The packaging was reduced in size by 22 per cent and the box and all of the materials inside are printed on 100 per cent post-consumer recycled paper.
The phone is being unveiled this week at the 2009 International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States.
The other design, the MOTOSURF A3100 – a high-speed touch tablet with a fully customizable home screen – enables social interaction more closely with its unique connectivity features.
The home screen icons can be personalized to give ‘live’ feeds on weather, news, personal and work e-mail, messaging and calendar events. The phone also allows its Facebook registered user to update his profile at the click of a button without logging on to the social interaction platform from a computer! WiFi and 3G connectivity make the experience seamless and fast.
Motorola may be taking pride in its committment to environmental responsibility but they are known around the world for innovation in communications.
The company’s portfolio includes communications infrastructure, enterprise mobility solutions, digital set-tops, cable modems, mobile devices and Bluetooth accessories.
